We’ve known for the last week or so that Picasa Web Albums were coming, but it’s still surprising to finally see it. It’s an invite only thing right now, but if you go to picasaweb.google.com, you can sign up for it. Sounds like Google is going to start charging storage fees for the first time ever as well. You only get 250MB of space when you first sign up– plenty for most of the world’s picture taking users, and you can up the limit to 6GB with an extra $25 a year, comparable when priced against flickr.
Now if they can just get the word out properly, we can see how many people really use Picasa on a daily basis and find out how many are willing to break up with Yahoo.
