“I am hoping that the appropriators could explain to me why we need $1 million for this ” are American shrimp unruly and lacking initiative?”
Oh, snap! Somebody got all riled up all of a sudden. Doesn’t look like Senator McCain appreciates the 5,934,537,143 pork barrell spending items tossed into the most recent spending plan. Well, he should dammit! That’s what he gets for endorsing a president that hasn’t vetoed a spending bill yet. He should know by now that he’s not going to be able to convince buddy Bush to do anything about it.
What’s that, you want a closer look at the things our government spends money on after a record deficit?
- $2 million for the government to buy back the presidential yacht Sequoia. The boat was sold three decades ago.
- $1 million for the “Wild American Shrimp Initiative”
- $1 million for the Norwegian American Foundation
- $35,000 for the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame
All right, before I laugh/cry myself to death, I think you get the point. Either way, it’s billions of extra dollars hidden tossed through the government without that much discussion or argument. Of course, there is an Appropriations Committee that is responsible for overseeing the bill and such. As the constitution (and their website) says:
“No money shall be drawn from the Treasury but in Consequence of Appropriations made by the Law”
Well good then, at least we have somebody watching over the whole process so that we don’t have to pay attention. Like Senator Richard Shelby from Alabama, one of the committee members. He was responsible enough to make sure he included only the 20 or so spending items that his state deserved.
Keep up on the supposed 11,772 (real number this time) necessary projects here.
